Why choose a beach holiday in the Thai resort of Pattaya?

Pattaya is one of Thailand’s busiest and most notorious tourist destinations. It has been a popular place to spend a weekend or much, much longer since the 1970s when American soldiers spent time off here. There are plenty of reasons to visit Pattaya and below are the first ten.
Great weather
Pattaya enjoys a warm climate all through the year. Like the rest of Thailand there is a rainy season in the middle of the year but rainfalls are small compared to the rest of the country here. Temperatures never dip below 30 Celsius any month of the year. Overnight temperatures can be a little lower but balmy nights should always be expected.
Proximity to Bangkok
Bangkok’s gigantic new international airport is as close to Pattaya as it is to downtown Bangkok and transport connections run directly between Pattaya and the airport. The journey takes around an hour – not too long to get from the international airport right to the beach and most Pattaya hotels will offer transfers directly between the airport and the hotel.
Pattaya is fun
Pattaya is a party town and most of the bars and clubs don’t start up until around 10pm. After that, it’s open season on the bar and the wallets of the customers. There are live shows including Thai boxing and plenty of regulars say that even just walking around the busy night time streets is an adventure. Outdoor food markets complete the appeal, and there is a large gay area in town.
Beautiful sunsets
Pattaya sunsets are renowned throughout Thailand and few go unmoved by the bronzes, ambers and golds that shimmer across the water when the sun goes down. The best views are said to be had at Jomtien but anywhere in Pattaya is touched by the angles and shadows of the setting sun.
Gigantic Buddha
The alabaster stone of the Wat Khao Phra Bat temple tower 18m in the air and the majestic Buddha images overlooks the Pattaya Bay with serenity and magnificence. It is open to visitors every day of the year and the photo opportunities here, particularly at sunset, are really top notch.
Great food
The dining scene in Pattaya is excellent, as would be expected from a busy tourist town that is located right on an ocean full of fish and other seafood. Seafood is the main game in town when it comes to Pattaya cuisine and there are plenty of luxurious restaurants that charge high prices.
Cheap eating
On the other hand, there are all number of hawker stalls and roadside vendors serving everything from sizzling bites on skewers or suckling pigs which is barbecued whole and carved straight onto paper plates. The large open air food courts of Pattaya are great value and deservedly popular.
Truth in advertising
Though Pattaya is sold primarily as a naughty, gaudy weekender it is full of temples and holy places too. The Sanctuary of Truth is a wooden temple that is dedicated to advancing the human spirit and the path of human civilisation.
Bungee jumping
There is a bungee tower right on the beach at Jomtien but adventure sports lovers will have fun with horse riding, gliding and even motor sports opportunities in Pattay in abundance. There is even an annual motor grand prix for hard core rev heads.
Spas
Like many parts of Thailand, tourists in Pattaya are treated to a huge number of very high quality health and beauty spas that offer all kinds of treatments to send people back to the beach feeling healthy and refreshed. Some treatments are performed on the beach itself.
