Options for nightlife in Rustenburg are basic at best with only a few establishment in town suitable for travelling football fans and tourists. The most atmosphere can be found within the Rustenburg bars around the bus station but some dodgy goings on have been reported there so keep your wits about you. Much safer are the pubs in Rustenburg centre such as on Hyestek Street or Beyers Naudè Drive. However, if you a desperate to let your hair down and party all night the only real option is to drive to Sun City where there are countless bars with better service and ambience than Rustenburg pubs. Polokwane is a rural city where most people rise early and work late. This means Polokwane nightlife is never going to set the world alight and visitors should content themselves with a few drinks at dinnertime and concentrate on exploring the glorious South African bush instead. However, Johnny Foreigner has uncovered a few Polokwane pubs where travellers can whet their whistle in comfort. However, most of these double up as restaurants and are not the most atmospheric, so any serious drinkers are advised to take themselves to the Meropa Sun Casino where there are numerous bars, pubs and restaurants all under the same roof. Nelspruit is a city on the rise with the spanking new Mbombela Stadium indicative of the fresh spirit the city has acquired since South Africa was awarded the 2010 World Cup. After matches there are a few Nelspruit nightlife spots worth looking into and most tend to do above average grub as well. Most Nelspruit pubs and bars will have televisions showing all of the live games so you will never have to miss a second of the action to get your fix of ice cold Castle lager. Rustenburg entertainment is more about nature reserves, game parks and miles of open bush wilderness than comedy clubs and cabaret stage shows. But there are a couple of casinos, cinema and the infamous Sun City Resort, dubbed the ‘Las Vegas of South Africa’. And being at the western edge of the Magaliesberg Mountains bestows a stunning backdrop to the town and many opportunities for entertainment in Rustenburg involves hiking, walking and climbing around the breaktaking landscape. There’s not much in the way of entertainment in Polokwane other than the fantastic new stadium, the nearby casino and a cinema. But this area of South Africa is supposed to be explored and most of the what people get up to for Polokwane entertainment relates to the great outdoors and the terrific opportunities for seeing wildlife. There may not be the array of entertainment venues in Nelspruit to rival the larger cities of South Africa, but this small town more than makes up for it in natural wonders and spirit. The Kruger National Park keeps most visitors entertained, with a teeming mass of wildlife and rural adventure. There is a casino outside of town which provides 24 hour entertainment in Nelspruit for those that like a flutter. And there’s also a cinema where the latest movies from around the world can be viewed in comfort. But when you’re not watching the football it’s probably best to be social and down a few beers in some local bars to while away your time in town. (more…)
