The Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg is hosting some key games at the South Africa 2010 World Cup including England’s opener against the USA. The Royal Bafokeng Stadium is named after Rustenburg’s Bafokeng people who inhabit the area. The competed Rustenburg Royal Bafokeng Stadium will have an all-seater capacity of 42,000 spectators.

Just over ten years ago, the Bafokeng people won a landmark legal battle entitling them to one-fifth of all platinum mined on the land which is their historic birthright. These shares in the platinum mining industry has bestowed new wealth on this part of South Africa. Rustenburg Royal Bafokeng Stadium is 12kms outside the city centre, a mere 25-minute drive to Sun City or half-an-hour away from Pilansberg.The Bafana Bafana South African national team won a crucial qualification match for the 2002 Japan World Cup here 2-1 against Bakino Faso in 2001.  And many South African Premier League football games have been hosted in the stadium despite Rustenburg not having a team of its own.
