Shopping in Port Elizabeth – malls, markets & souvenirs

Port Elizabeth is something of a shopper’s paradise, with antique stalls, flea markets, malls and upmarket boutiques all begging to be explored. There is room for everyone here, from the bargain hunter to the label victim, so be prepared to part with your hard-earned cash. Whether you’re looking for an unusual present to return home with or a treat for yourself, you are sure to find something worthy of your holiday money here. Put simply, shopping in Port Elizabeth couldn’t get much better.

Best shopping areas in Port Elizabeth:

Durban Road and Njoli Sqaure
For a truly urban shopping experience in Port Elizabeth, head to Durban Road and Njoli Square. Here you will find the hustle and bustle of the busy ethnic streets amongst the invigorating smells and spices and coffee. There are also a number of speciality stores in this area, including some of Port Elizabeth’s wine shops.

Jeffreys Bay
If it’s surf shopping you’re after then Jeffreys Bay is the place to head. With its world famous beach, both billabong and Quicksilver have factory shops here and there are also countless great lesser-known brands. Port Elizabeth is undoubtedly the best place for surf shopping in the whole of the Eastern Cape.

Central historic district
The area around Rink Parliament and Lawrence Street are the best spots to head if you’re in the mood for antique hunting. Check out all the little gems along Clyde Street and Pearson Street. The Beachfront Market
A beachfront market in Port Elizabeth is held every Sunday along the promenade from King’s Beach to Happy Valley. Everything from clothes to baskets are sold here, but be prepared to haggle for a fair price.

Art in the park
The Art in the Park craft market is held in the heart of St George’s Park between 8:30am and 3pm on the first Sunday of every month as well as public holidays. This is the best place to pick up unique and authentic handicrafts of a totally different quality to the usual curios tat. There are also some great novelty stands here, homemade clothing, art and footwear as well as yummy traditional food stalls.

Greenacres

Greenacres is part of a kilometre-long shopping complex and is the biggest mall in Port Elizabeth. Everything you could need is here under one roof, including restaurants and entertainment facilities. A variety of community events are also held here throughout the year.

The Bridge Shopping Centre

Much like Greenacres, the Bridge Shopping Centre is a one-stop mall for all your shopping needs. It attracts a young and trendy crowd and boasts various American-style restaurants and leisure facilities.

Walmer Park Shopping Centre

Walmer Park Shopping centre is one of the most popular Port Elizabeth malls. There are around 100 shops here as well as a food court and famous department stores. There is also a foreign currency exchange and a number of banks, chemists and beauty salons.

Moffett on Main

Moffett on Main is the height of sophistication when it comes to shopping in Port Elizabeth. The upmarket ‘lifestyle centre’ is home to chic furnishing stores and exclusive boutiques. There are also a number of nice but overprices restaurants here which are great for a treat.

Sixth Avenue Shopping Centre

The Sixth Avenue shopping centre has everything from high fashion stores to banks. There are also many electrical and computer shops here.

Pier 14 Shopping Centre

Pier 14 is the only themed shopping centre in Eastern Cape with its submarine-shaped elevator and nautical furnishings. There are also a number of novelty gift shops, fashion boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants.
