Johannesburg restaurants – curry, steaks & fine dining
Posted on 21. Mar, 2010 by admin in Johannesburg
There are restaurants in Johannesburg for every possible taste and budget ranging from streetside snack stalls to the plushest fine dining. Many Jo’burg eateries specialise in game and meat with some exceptionally exotic species gracing the tables here. There is also some seafood available at Johannesburg restaurants but these tend to be more expensive and less fresh than at the coast.
If short on time and cash then you will have no problem locating the usual array of fast food restaurants in Jo’burg city centre. But for the more adventurous there is a good variety of spicy thai and Indian restaurants in Johannesburg for that obligatory post-match curry.
The Melrose Arch neighbourhood contains many of the more upmarket Johannesburg restaurants and nightspots including the famous Moyo. While Melville has lots of good restaurants popular with Jo’burgs artist community.
Fordsburg is awash with Indian restaurants serving up authentic subcontinental cuisine. And as it is close to the Oriental Plaza, it makes for a good stop if out on a shopping spree. This is also one of the few neighbourhoods which is always busy after dark with throngs hanging around the flea market and surrounding Jo’burg restaurants, especially at the weekend.
