Rustenburg is a modest city in most sense and its shopping facilities are no exception. The malls here are exceptionally small but that doesn’t mean that shopping in Rustenburg should be crossed off your list. The Waterfall Mall in Rustenburg draws in shoppers from the whole area to its mix of modern stores, fast food and entertainment, while other smaller, more specialised malls provide shopping facilities in Rustenburg for those staying on the outskirts of town. There is also plenty of local arts and crafts shopping in Rustenburg to enjoy, most of which can be found in the town centre along what is known as the Rustenburg Ramble. Getting to Rustenburg – transport, bus, car rental

Rustenburg is in a great position just an hour or so away from Johannesburg and Pretoria. This makes travelling to Rustenburg a doddle and many of the favourite get-aways of city dwellers in Johannesburg are en-route to the city. Rustenburg has its own domestic airport, but many choose to fly into Johannesburg airport and arrive in the city by road. There are also many long-distance buses that use Rustenburg as a stopover. Once there, public transport in Rustenburg is similar to any other South African city – almost non-existent. The town of Rustenburg was established in 1851 and begun life as a frontier post for hunters and prospectors looking to earn themselves a few bucks from the wild South African hinterland. This “town of rest” soon grew in popularity and today it’s developed into a favourite spot for travellers and tourists, with some notable Rusteburg attractions keeping the hordes happy. There are plenty of things to do in Rustenburg from visiting working cattle ranches, going go-carting, clay pigeon shooting and much more. And with many Rustenburg attractions a short distance from the town, there’s ample opportunity to travel into that gorgeous African savannah. (more…)
Rustenburg nightlife – bars, pubs & Sun City

Options for nightlife in Rustenburg are basic at best with only a few establishment in town suitable for travelling football fans and tourists. The most atmosphere can be found within the Rustenburg bars around the bus station but some dodgy goings on have been reported there so keep your wits about you. Much safer are the pubs in Rustenburg centre such as on Hyestek Street or Beyers Naudè Drive. However, if you a desperate to let your hair down and party all night the only real option is to drive to Sun City where there are countless bars with better service and ambience than Rustenburg pubs. Rustenburg entertainment – casino, cinema & Sun City

Rustenburg entertainment is more about nature reserves, game parks and miles of open bush wilderness than comedy clubs and cabaret stage shows. But there are a couple of casinos, cinema and the infamous Sun City Resort, dubbed the ‘Las Vegas of South Africa’. And being at the western edge of the Magaliesberg Mountains bestows a stunning backdrop to the town and many opportunities for entertainment in Rustenburg involves hiking, walking and climbing around the breaktaking landscape. Rustenburg Royal Bafokeng Stadium

The Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg is hosting some key games at the South Africa 2010 World Cup including England’s opener against the USA. The Royal Bafokeng Stadium is named after Rustenburg’s Bafokeng people who inhabit the area. The competed Rustenburg Royal Bafokeng Stadium will have an all-seater capacity of 42,000 spectators.
