Shopping facilities in Polkwane are surprisingly good considering the city’s sleepy nature. There is a good handful of malls and shopping centres in Polokwane, most of which are home to various national and international chains. There are a few choice markets in Polokwane for those who prefer haggling, as well as locally made arts and crafts for sale both in Polokwane and the surrounding townships. Polokwane transport – getting to Pietersburg

Polokwane is blessed with an airport which is currently undergoing a major facelift in preparation for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. This, along with its train station and regular bus services, makes getting to Polokwane a doddle. Once in the city, public transport in Polokwane is few and far between as in most South African metropolises. There are, however, a couple of reliable taxi firms, various car rental companies at Polokwane Airport and private hire vehicles and tours to take advantage of. Polokwane is a rural city where most people rise early and work late. This means Polokwane nightlife is never going to set the world alight and visitors should content themselves with a few drinks at dinnertime and concentrate on exploring the glorious South African bush instead. However, Johnny Foreigner has uncovered a few Polokwane pubs where travellers can whet their whistle in comfort. However, most of these double up as restaurants and are not the most atmospheric, so any serious drinkers are advised to take themselves to the Meropa Sun Casino where there are numerous bars, pubs and restaurants all under the same roof. There’s not much in the way of entertainment in Polokwane other than the fantastic new stadium, the nearby casino and a cinema. But this area of South Africa is supposed to be explored and most of the what people get up to for Polokwane entertainment relates to the great outdoors and the terrific opportunities for seeing wildlife. It’s a race against time to ensure the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane will ready for the start of the 2010 South Africa World Cup. The finished stadium will be around five kilometres from downtown and will hold 45,000 crazed Bafana Bafana supporters when it is completed. Polokwane Peter Mokaba Stadium is long overdue in Limpopo Province which has the largest number of football players registered in South Africa but without the vital facilities to allow them all to blossom. Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane is named after the political activist  and inspiring leader who fought vehement against apartheid in South Africa. (more…)

Polokwane is a town which gets back to the heart of Africa. Although not a major tourist attraction in it’s own right there are many Polokwane hotels and accommodation choices ranging from hunting lodges to bed and breakfasts. The city is located near the northern gate of the Kruger National Park and many visitors stay at hotels in Polokwane before embarking on wildlife expeditions.
